Celebrating the good happening every day across Tairāwhiti.
The Awhi Project is about shining a light on the people who care for our taiao, look out for others and quietly make a difference in our communities. Through nominations, storytelling and a few local kai treats along the way, we’re celebrating the everyday acts of manaakitanga and kaitiakitanga that give us hope for the future.
Kia aroha ki te taiao. Kia aroha ki te tangata. Kia aroha ki te Tairāwhiti.
Who gives you hope?
Think of someone who quietly makes Tairāwhiti a better place. Someone who looks out for others, cares for our taiao, shares what they know, lends a hand or simply gets on with doing good.
It doesn’t have to be something huge. The Awhi Project is about celebrating the everyday acts of caring for eachother and caring for our environment. Acts that often go unnoticed. It is about reminding us of the positive. In doing so, we are not ignoring the maemae/ hurt, but we are attempting to take some of the weight off - reminding us that we are so very amazing and resilient, as individuals and as a region.
Whoever came to mind after reading this — show them that you care too! You can nominate as many people as you like!
Someone residing in the Tairāwhiti region
nominations/ nominated people can 100% choose to stay under the radar! If names are Ok’d to be shared, it will only ever be first name and the surname initial! No other data is shared out publicly, other than the reason for nomination, i.e the ‘hope story’. In doing so, we can build our map of hope and strong connections!

Open to anyone in the Tairāwhiti region. Entries to be received via the above nomination form or nominees to be clearly tagged, incl the why (hope statement) on More FM or TEC’s campaign posts.
Winners drawn and announced by Bevan 4 Breakfast on More FM each Monday.
All LEGENDS also enter ECHO, our October campaign. ECHO winners will be drawn and announced on 2 November.

Fill out above nomination form OR comment directly on Radio Ngāti Porou’s Facebook post with your nominee’s name, community, Junior or Senior category, and why you’re nominating them. Nominations close on 30 September.
Radio Ngāti Porou will select the Four Square voucher winners and the Maunga Hikurangi tour winner. Watch their Facebook page for prize announcements.
All Taiao Warrior nominees also enter ECHO, our October campaign. ECHO winners will be drawn and announced on 2 November.
